Oceanside Community


Oceanside, a thriving community with the conveniences of a modern city and the cozy feeling of a smaller coastal community.

The five member City Commission includes one Mayor and four Commissioners, each serving three year terms at an award winning Civic Center, located at 300 North Coast Highway, Oceanside, California 92054 Main Phone 760-966-4410. Regular business hours at City Hall are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M-F

Oceanside encourages new investment through an incentive plan for new commercial, industrial and office construction and one of the lowest property tax rates in the county.



Oceanside Culture


Oceanside offers several historic places, museums, galleries and cultural events including:

The Museum of Art - A visual arts center that brings a variety of art exhibitions to the downtown, at the historic Gill Building.

The California Surf Museum - Capturing, preserving and chronicling the surfing lifestyle's culture and heritage artwork. You can visit this internationally recognized world class-museum.

Buena Vista Audubon Society's Nature Center - Showcases a wide variety of plants and birds in a coastal wetlands habitat.

Harbor Days is a scheduled annual event held the 3rd weekend in September.

Mission San Luis Rey de Francia - The Mission, with Franciscan Retreat Center, museum, guided and self-guided tours, a gift shop, Cemetery and various functions and events, located in Oceanside, is Mission #18 of California's 21 Missions once operated by the Franciscan Friars of California.



Oceanside Education


High Schools:
El Camino High School and Oceanside High School.
A proposed high school in the northern section of Oceanside is considered as the population increases.

Middle Schools:
Jefferson Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, and Martin Luther King Middle School.
Cesar Chavez Middle School is currently under construction on Old Grove Road and is not set to open up until 2007.

Oceanside History


In the 20th century, Oceanside was a beach town devoted to activities on a 6-mile stretch of beaches. Residential areas like Downtown built in the 1890s, South Oceanside in the 1920’s and 1930’s and developments east of Interstate 5 built after World War II, now are preserved and remodeled when these houses are now considered to have historical value. After 1970, the main focus of Oceanside was suburban development and a choice for newcomers to move in then relatively affordable housing. Today, Oceanside is a Top Real Estate Choice with Home Values over the $500,000 mark for it's Location by San Diego and the Pacific Coast. On June 13th 2005, the Wall Street Journal rated Oceanside as the Number One Vacation Home Market in the Country!

Oceanside is made up of single family homes, condominiums, villas, and townhouses in established coastal communities, well-priced available land and spacious equestrian ranches and new housing developments tucked away in the canyons and valleys in the eastern inland part of the city.

The Oceanside Harbor Village with fine restaurants, shops, fast food eateries, and a lighthouse, along with the nearby Harbor Beach and picnic tables, offer the marine visitors and motorists an enchanting seaport atmosphere experience.


Oceanside Nature


Southern California Coast Line and Miles of Sandy Beaches, plus Oceanside is also known for the nature grounds of Mount Ecclesia, launched in 1911. This place is the location of the international headquarters of a fraternal and service organization called The Rosicrucian Fellowship. It is also the location of its spiritual healing temple, called "The Ecclesia", situated upon the promontory of a high mesa.



Oceanside Recreation


Attractions :

The Oceanside Pier, first built in 1888, (and now in its sixth incarnation) is the longest wooden pier on the western United States coastline at 1,954 feet (596m).

Oceanside is home to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, one of the Alta California Missions. Oceanside is also known for the nature grounds of Mount Ecclesia, launched in 1911. This place is the location of the international headquarters of a fraternal and service organization called The Rosicrucian Fellowship. It is also the location of its spiritual healing temple, called "The Ecclesia", situated upon the promontory of a high mesa.

The bungalow house featured in Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise, is located on South Pacific Street, which is one street up from the Oceanside Strand, a section of residential houses along the Coastline.

From June 20 through June 28, 1997, a record 221,000 fans watched the X Games III held in San Diego and Oceanside. The surfing competition took place at the Oceanside Harbor Beach.

The California Surf Museum is located in downtown Oceanside. Every Fourth of July thousands of Oceansidians and people from the surrounding communities flock to the Pier to watch a spectacular Fireworks Show.

Legoland California, located in Carlsbad, can be reached from Oceanside's Amtrak station.

The final competition scene from the film "Bring It On (film)" was not shot in Daytona, FL, but at the beach shell in front of the Oceanside Pier.

In the late 1990s, Oceanside had a minor league baseball franchise of the Western Baseball League, in the Miracosta College Ballpark but folded operations and lacked a standard ball park, now the site of the North County Waves semi-pro collegiate team.

Oceanside Transportation


Oceanside homeowners have easy access to California's main highway, Interstate 5, as well as California Highway 78, which both run through the city. Interstate 15 is accessible by California Highways 76 & 78.

Oceanside Weather


Oceanside average temperature is a perfect 75° F with an average annual rainfall of 10 inches. It's hard to find better weather than in Southern California.
